Presentation of Neo and Elephant by Ashley Kees

I recently attended a workshop hosted by the developers of Neo and Elephant, which are free, open-source Python modules made specifically for the organization, analysis, and sharing of electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and modeling data (see below for more info).

I will give a nontechnical presentation to introduce these tools, rasie awareness about them, and share resources for anyone interested in trying them out.

The presentation is open to everyone from Bordeaux Neurocampus, and will take place on :

Monday, November 18 – 12:00-14:00 – in the Pyramide room (Centre Broca)

Thursday, November 28 – 10:00-12:00 – in the Pyramide room (Centre Broca)

 

What are Neo and Elephant?

These are the result of efforts funded by the Human Brain Project.

Neo is a module with the main purpose of putting electrophysiological and calcium imaging data in a standardized format.  On the simplest level, it provides functions to read data files recorded from many platforms, including Axon, Intan, OpenEphy, and Nest, among others.  There is also a structure for linking the different types of data and metadata from entire experiments.  The overarching goal is to make it easier for people to work with their data, and store or share it in a format that can be easily used by another person.

Elephant builds on the Neo framework and provides common visualization and analysis functions that can be used on data in the Neo format.
