Seminar – Claire Meissirel

29 March 2019 / 11:30

Venue: Centre Broca Nouvelle-Aquitaine / Conference hall

Scientific focus

Increasing evidence indicate that the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor VEGFR2 mediate key neurobiological processes including among others, adult neurogenesis, hippocampal-dependent synaptic plasticity and cognition. Our recent work demonstrates that the impact of VEGF on adult synaptic plasticity and memory involving the hippocampus requires the neuronal expression of VEGFR2. Moreover, we documented a new crosstalk between VEGFR2 and NMDAR that increases NMDAR synaptic responses in hippocampal neurons and triggers the formation of new synapses.
Our current interest is to determine whether the VEGF/VEGFR2 signaling is impaired in neurological disorders in which glutamatergic transmission mediated by NMDA receptors is altered, such as Alzheimer Disease and Depression.
