BIC Image of the Month – December 2025

For the last Image of the Month of 2025, the BIC is proud to highlight the work of Sandrine Bertrand and Aurélie Bonilla from the Motoneurons and Synaptic Partners team at INCIA (UMR 5287).

They recently collaborated with Sabrina Martin and Isabelle Brunet from CIRB at Collège de France (UMR 7241) to apply the tissue optical clearing technique iDISCO and label specific structures of interest in whole rat hearts.

In this image, sympathetic innervation is labeled with anti-tyrosine hydroxylase antibodies (orange channel), while vascularization is labeled with anti-smooth muscle actin antibodies (green channel).

The team then worked with Jérémie Teillon, our expert in large sample preparation and imaging, to acquire and analyze the entire organs using light sheet microscopy, revealing this stunning visualization.
