A crucial event in the birth of a neuron is the detachment of its apical process
from the neuroepithelium. In this issue of Neuron, Rousso et al. (2012) show that
repression of N-cadherin by Foxp transcription factors disrupts apical adherens
junctions and triggers neurogenesis.
