Reaching and manual tracking are thought to rely differently on feedforward and feedback processes. Here, we show that although nearly complete transfer of visuomotor adaptation occurs from reaching to tracking, only minimal transfer is found from tracking to reaching. Even though the update of feedforward processes (key for reaching) proved directly useful to feedback processes (key for tracking), the strong asymmetrical transfer suggests that feedback control can be updated independently from feedforward adaptation.
