SUMMARY:4th International symposium on BPAN disease
DESCRIPTION:Friday 5 and Saturday 6 June\, 2026 \nVenue : Bâtiment Bordeaux Biologie Santé (BBS) \n\nThis is the 4th symposium on BPAN disease organized by the Association “Autour du BPAN” and the NRGen Team (Translational Research on Neurodegenerative Diseases) from INCIA\, Bordeaux. \nBPAN (Beta-Propeller Protein-Associated Neurodegeneration) is a rare neurodegenerative disease that belongs to the NBIA (Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation) group. The disease often begins in childhood with developmental delays and epileptic seizures\, then progresses in adulthood to motor and cognitive impairments (parkinsonism\, dementia). To date\, there is no curative treatment. BPAN is caused by mutations in the nuclear WDR45 gene\, which encodes a protein involved in the early stages of autophagy. \nThe symposium will provide an opportunity to discuss the latest findings regarding research models\, pathophysiological mechanisms\, the search for therapeutic molecules\, and clinical advances. It will bring together families of patients\, European researchers\, clinicians and geneticists to share the latest insights on BPAN from a transdisciplinary perspective. \nIt will take place on June 5 and 6\, with a gala dinner on Friday evening aboard a boat on the Garonne River. \nOrganizing Committee Contacts\nJean-Paul LASSERRE\, INCIA – CNRS UMR 5287\, Bordeaux – jean-paul.lasserre@u-bordeaux.fr \nIsabelle COUPRY\, INCIA – CNRS UMR 5287\, Bordeaux – isabelle.coupry@u-bordeau.fr \nProgram and registration\n available via the link below https://www.helloasso.com/associations/autour-du-bpan/evenements/symposium-in-france-5-et-6-juin-2026 \n  \n
