Post-doc in systems neuroscience in Bordeaux
Available post-doctoral position in systems neuroscience funded by ERC
A post-doc position is available at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience (IINS) in Bordeaux, France, in the team of Lisa Roux.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a PhD in neuroscience, biology, physics, mathematics or computer science. They will have to show good team work and organization skills, be rigorous and creative, be able to work independently and take initiatives. A background in signal processing, programming and experience with rodent stereotaxic surgeries and in vivo electrophysiological recordings is not required but will be appreciated. The selected candidate must be passionate about science and want to be part of a new dynamic team which fosters innovation in a collaborative environment.
The team and project
The goal of our team is to identify the network mechanisms underlying the formation of olfactory memory traces across distributed brain regions. More generally, we aim at understanding how sensory information is routed and processed in the brain to integrate lasting memories.
Towards this goal, we use a combination of advanced methods that allow monitoring and manipulating in real-time neuronal ensembles in freely moving rodents towards a deep mechanistic understanding of brain functions. These methods include chronic multi-site high-density electrophysiological recordings (“silicon probes”), 3D behavioral tracking, respiration monitoring and optogenetic manipulations in behaving rodents.
The ERC project focuses on the brain-wide mechanisms underlying the contribution of social chemosignals to spatial and social memory in mice – namely memory for an individual and memory for its territory. It focuses on the interactions between the main olfactory system and the hippocampus, a brain region central to these two fundamental memory functions.
The project will be conducted in a stimulating, interdisciplinary and international environment, in a newly established research building within the Bordeaux Neurocampus (http://www.vibarchitecture.com/project/neurocampus-bordeaux-33/).
