SUMMARY:Friday seminar - Hanna Pickard
DESCRIPTION:Venue: Centre Broca \n\nHanna Pickard\nBloomberg Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Bioethics and Krieger-Eisenhower Professor\nJohn Hopkins University\nhttps://philosophy.jhu.edu/directory/hanna-pickard/\nhttps://www.hannapickard.com/ \nAuthor of “What Would You Do Alone in a Cage with Nothing but Cocaine? A Philosophy of Addiction” \nInvited by Serge Ahmed (INCIA) \nTitle\nAddiction and the Good \nAbstract\nRates of addiction remain high while models of addiction multiply and compete and translational results lag behind. It is time to rethink our understanding of what addiction is. Based on my recent book What Would You Do Alone in a Cage with Nothing but Cocaine? A Philosophy of Addiction\, I will present the foundations for a new paradigm for addiction that marries science with ethics—embracing the heterogeneity of scientific explanations of addiction while recognizing that defining and treating addiction requires careful attention to the ethical ideal of a person’s own good. \n
