SUMMARY:Olfaction and Neuroscience Day
DESCRIPTION:Monday 16 October \nVenue: Neurocentre Magendie \nFree access\n \n\nThis symposium is jointly organised by Lisa Roux (IINS)\, Guillaume Ferreira (NutriNeuro) and Giovanni Marsicano (Neurocentre Magendie). \nIn many species\, smell is a sensory modality necessary for the establishment of behaviours that are critical for survival. However\, little is known about the neural mechanisms involved in odour processing. The speakers will illustrate the physiology of the first relays involved in olfactory information processing\, namely the olfactory bulb and the piriform cortex\, as well as the neurobiological bases underlying different forms of olfactory memory. These presentations will highlight the importance of internally-generated activity in these functions. \nProgramme\n10:00-10:30: Welcome / coffee \n10:30-11:10 – Hanne Stensola (University of Agder\, Norway)\nHeteroassociative dynamics in the olfactory cortex. \n11:10-11:35 – Paula Gomez Sotres (NCM\, Bordeaux)\nOlfactory bulb astrocytes control social transmission of stress and its cognitive consequences. \n11:35-12:15 – Emmanuelle Courtiol (CRNL\, Lyon)\nSniffing as a useful index of olfactory abilities throughout the lifespan. \n12:15-14:15 – Lunch break \n14:15-14:30 – Coffee/tea (conference room) \n14:30-14:55 – Alice Fermigier (NutriNeuro\, Bordeaux)\nHigh-fat diet consumption during adolescence disrupts social memory and stress-induced social olfactory preferences: role of hippocampal CA2 area. \n14:55-15:35 – Anton Sirota (Ludwig-Maximilians University\, Germany)\nBreathing rhythm entrains memory consolidation dynamics during sleep. \n15:35-16:00 – Giulio Casali (IINS\, Bordeaux)\nPhysiological characterization of piriform cortex modulation by respiratory signal. \n16:00-16:20 – Coffee break \n16:20-16:50 – Geoffrey Terral (Albert Einstein College of Medicine\, USA)\nEndocannabinoids in the olfactory cortex regulate the trade-off between olfactory processes. \n16:50-17:30 – Carl Schoonover (Columbia University\, USA)\nExperience dependence of connectivity in olfactory cortex. \n17:30-19:00 Cocktail / wine tasting \n  \n
