SUMMARY:Seminar - Pierre Burbaud
DESCRIPTION:Venue: Centre Broca \n \n\nPierre Burbaud (IMN\, CHU) \nTitle\nThe pathologies of habit \nAbstract\nHow does our brain work? At a time when there’s so much talk of artificial intelligence\, this question is all the more pressing! How do our habits develop? What drives human intelligence? \nEvolution has transformed our brains to give us extraordinary mental capacities. And yet\, our actions and social interactions\, which seem so elaborate\, are often based on archaic behaviours. \nIn this lecture\, the author\, a neurologist who cares for both adults suffering from neurodegenerative diseases and children with neurodevelopmental disorders\, talks about illnesses in which disturbed habits are present. He looks in particular at the examples of Parkinson’s disease and Gilles de la Tourette syndrome\, two mirror-image pathologies. \nBiosketch\nPierre Burbaud is a neurologist and neurobiologist (MD\, PhD). He carries out his research activities at the Institut des Maladies Neurodégénératives at the University of Bordeaux. A clinician specializing in abnormal movements and deep brain stimulation\, he treats both adults suffering from neurodegenerative diseases and children with neurodevelopmental disorders. He headed the Clinical Neurophysiology Department at Bordeaux University Hospital from 2006 to 2020. \nAux éditions Odile Jacob\n
