SUMMARY:Mini-symposium: glia\, neurons and circuits in brain functions
DESCRIPTION:Venue: Centre Broca \n\nIn the frame of Paula Gomez-Sotres PhD defense \nAt its fundamental level\, the brain consists of two primary cell categories: neurons and glial cells. Understanding the role of these two separate but intertwined components is key to unravel the basis of several brain processes. In this symposium\, the speakers will present data on the role of glia or neurons in different brain functions\, using state-of-the-art techniques to do very cool neuroscience. \n14:00 Amit Agarwal\nUniversity of Heidelberg\n \nAmit Agarwal\, PhD\, leads his team at the University of Heidelberg\, where he focuses on understanding the contribution of neuron-glia interactions\, particularly astrocytes and oligodendrocytes\, to brain function. In his talk\, titled “Analgesic action of astrocytic adrenergic receptors in chronic pain”\, he will present data using calcium sensors in astrocytes to unravel the contribution of these cells in chronic pain. \n14:45 Guillaume Ferreira\nNutriNeuro \nGuillaume Ferreira\, PhD\, co-leads the team FoodCircus at NutriNeuro in Bordeaux. His team aims to establish mechanistic causal links between nutrient status and behavioral dimensions relevant to the symptoms of certain neurological and psychiatric disorders. In his talk “Sex differences in endocannabinoid regulation of obesogenic diet-induced memory deficits“\, he will present data about how the endocannabinoid system differently controls cognitive impairments linked to obesity in female and males. \n15:30 Jaideep Bains\nKrembil Institute\, Toronto\n \nJaideep Bains\, PhD\, is the director of the Krembil Institute in Toronto where he also leads his team focusing on stress mechanisms. In his talk\, he will present the most recent data of his lab using electrophysiology and in-vivo approaches to characterize the role of hypothalamic CRH neurons in negative and positive valence experiences. \n
