DESCRIPTION:Cancelled!\nVenue : Centre Broca conference room \n\nThe multifaceted mitochondria in the hypothalamic control of metabolism and beyond \nMarc Claret\nGroup Leader\nNeuronal Control of Metabolism (NeuCoMe) Laboratory\,\nInstitut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS)\nBarcelona\, Spain. \nInvited by Daniela Cota \n\nAbstract\nThe traditional view of the mitochondria as simply the “energy factory” of the cell has been proved to be over simplistic. Mitochondria are multifaceted organelles\, implicated in numerous essential cellular processes\, and its dysfunction is associated with a wide range of disorders including metabolic conditions such as obesity and diabetes. The arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus is a key homeostatic hub fundamental for the regulation of appetite\, energy expenditure and systemic metabolism. A major research interests of my laboratory is to understand the impact of diverse mitochondrial processes in specific populations of hypothalamic neurons upon physiology and pathophysiology. This seminar will introduce recent findings linking mitochondrial cristae in hypothalamic neurons\, white adipose tissue lipolysis and obesity development. \n
