Abstract :

It has been previously shown by microdialysis in C57Bl/6J mice that behavioral sensitization induced by compounds belonging to main groups of drugs of abuse, such as amphetamine, cocaine, morphine, or alcohol, was underlain by a long-term sensitization of noradrenergic and serotonergic neurons.


As the main focus of my PhD, I used amphetamine to gain an insight into the mechanisms underlying the maintenance of the long-term neurochemical modifications induced by a drug of abuse. During my post-doc, I focused on studying the effects of a single in vivo ethanol exposure on GABAergic transmission in the Ventral Tegmental Area (VTA) in C57Bl/6J mice.

By providing an insight into the long-lasting neurobiological modifications induced by to drugs of abuse, we hope that our findings will help to find therapeutic targets and contribute to the development of effective treatments against drug addiction.
