Abstract :

Interaction between brain oscillators is as a critical mechanism to  orchestrate synchronization between neuronal circuits at different  scales. Hippocampal microcircuits are especially suitable to better  understand how this mechanism operates in health and disease. In this talk, I will review recent finding from my lab on the microcircuit  structure of a range of natural hippocampal oscillations and their  distortion in temporal lobe epilepsy, a disease affecting the structure especifically.

We will discuss how a range of hippocampal  oscillations emerge from basic rules governing the operation of these  circuits using a combination of single-cell and population recordings,  and relate their distortion to different cognitive co-morbidities of  TLE.
